Hyderabad: Reliance Industries (RIL) has bought an luxurious Rolls Royce SUV that costs a mind boggling 13.14 crore.
It is one of the most expensive cars ever purchased in the country, according to Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials in Mumbai.
The car, a Rolls Royce Cullinan petrol model, was registered by RIL at the Tardeo Regional Transport Office in South Mumbai on January 31, the RTO officials said. When first launched in 2018, its price was Rs 6.95 crore, but auto industry experts say customisations would have raised the price phenominally.
The company has opted for the "Tuscan Sun" colour for the 12-cylinder car weighing over 2.5 tonne produces 564 BHP of power. The company has also obtained a special number plate for the car.
A one-time tax of Rs 20 lakh has been paid by the company for the car whose registration is valid till January 30, 2037, and another Rs 40,000 has been paid towards road safety tax.
The company has also paid Rs 12 lakh for a VIP number for its chairman and managing director's Mukesh Ambani's new car. The number ends with 0001, the RTO officials said.
With written permission from the Transport Commissioner, RTO offices can start a new series for assigning registration mark 0001 for which the applicant has to shell out three times the fee specified for a regular number, the officials added.
Rolls Royce Cullinan is capable of taking both paved and rough roads, and this will be a third Cullinan model in the Ambani possession. Some other industrialists and Bollywood celebrities also have the same model.
